My AI Agent Bought Bitcoin Hashpower. It Lost ₿2,902.

I told my AI agent to “go mine Bitcoin”. It rented real SHA-256 hashpower on the open market, pointed it at a real pool, and earned real sats. Here is how it went down.

How AI Agents Can Buy Hashpower

There are not many options yet for AI agents to buy or rent hashpower over the internet. Braiins Hashpower is a spot marketplace for Bitcoin hashpower. It works like an order book, but instead of bidding on bitcoin, you bid on raw SHA-256 compute, priced in BTC per EH per day. You set a budget, set a speed cap, and Braiins routes real mining hardware to whatever pool you choose.

The cool thing is, the machines, the warehouse and the noise is somewhere else, not in my house.

Minimum bid: 10,000 sats. That’s exactly where we started.

Buying 10,000 Sats worth of Hashpower on the Market

1. Fund it. 10,500 sats went out from the agents Spark wallet and landed in about 13 minutes. Deposits are on-chain only, three confirmations. No KYC documents for buyers. Just a Telegram verification and an email.

2. Place the bid. 10,000 sats at 0.62406 BTC per EH per day, capped at 1 PH/s, pointed at Braiins Pool under the worker name. We chose the order-book route over the solo lottery tile. A steady pool payout has a predictable result. A lottery ticket would be just wasted sats when you’re running an experiment like this.

3. Watch it fill. The bid filled 92%. The market delivered an average of 931 TH/s, just under the 1 PH/s cap. Real hardware, somewhere, hashing for us.

4. Collect. The rented hashpower mined for the rental window. Pool rewards accumulated: 7,098 sats.

5. Get paid. Payout went out over Lightning to a Lightning Address in the possession of my AI agent. The payout threshold is 1 sat, so everything swept automatically. Lightning on the way out, even though it was on-chain on the way in.

The receipt: A 2,902 Sats Deficit

In: 10,500 sats (bid + buffer). Bid: 10,000 sats. Fill: 92% at 931 TH/s average. Earned back: 7,098 sats. Net: -2,902 sats.

About three thousand sats. That’s the tuition for watching a hashpower market clear in real time.

What it taught me

Hashprice is real and it bites. The bid priced compute at 0.62406 BTC per EH per day. The pool paid back less than the bid cost. That spread is the market telling you exactly what retail hashpower is worth right now. No theory needed.

Renting beats owning for experiments. For 10,000 sats we got a live tour of mining economics: order books, fill rates, pool payouts. Buying a single ASIC would have cost orders of magnitude more. (Well, owning a Bitaxe is non-negotiatable)

The agent can execute it end to end. An AI agent moved real bitcoin, placed a real bid, and managed a real P&L. It didn’t simulate mining. It mined. The loss is on the receipt, and that’s what makes it worth writing about.

Lightning closes the loop. On-chain in, Lightning out, all inside one experiment. The payout landing in a Coinos wallet over Lightning felt like the future arriving slightly early.

The bottom line

There are many implications of bitcoin mining and combining AI with bitcoin. AI agents could trade hashpower, use hashpower to manage corporate books or tax optimization strategies. Or simply to trade.

We spent 10,000 sats, got 7,098 back, and learned exactly how a hashpower market works. If you’ve ever wondered what sits between you and actual Bitcoin mining, the answer is: about ten thousand sats and a Telegram verification. The market will happily take your money and teach you the rest.
