  • Startale Japan has issued what is described as the country’s first digital corporate bond paying interest and principal in JPYSC.
  • JPYSC is a trust-based yen stablecoin issued by SBI Shinsei Trust Bank under Japan’s Payment Services Act.
  • Settlement happens fully on-chain, without traditional payment rails.
  • The bond is aimed at Japanese investors.

Japan just put real corporate debt cashflows on stablecoin rails. Startale Japan has issued the country’s first digital corporate bond that pays both interest and principal in JPYSC, settling entirely on-chain without touching traditional payment rails.

JPYSC is Japan’s first trust-based yen stablecoin, launched June 24 by SBI Group and Startale Group. It is issued by SBI Shinsei Trust Bank and recognized as an electronic payment instrument under Japan’s Payment Services Act, with reserves held in a bankruptcy-remote trust. Unlike retail-focused yen tokens, JPYSC targets institutions: no limits on transaction size or account balances, built for tokenized asset settlement and large transfers.

Startale Group, founded by Sota Watanabe, is becoming the on-chain arm of corporate Japan. The company co-develops the Soneium Layer-2 network with Sony, builds tokenized securities infrastructure with SBI Holdings, and raised $63 million in Series A funding with the Sony Innovation Fund and SBI participating.

This is the pattern to watch. Regulated institutions are moving settlement on-chain because the rails are faster and run around the clock. But JPYSC is still permissioned IOU money: issued by a trust bank, redeemable through the traditional system, and gated to approved investors. Bitcoin is the bearer asset underneath the entire idea. Stablecoins prove the demand for internet-native money. Bitcoin is the version nobody can freeze or deplatform.
