The bitcoin++ conference has brought together Bitcoin developers and builders from around the world for four days of hacking, learning, and collaboration in Florianópolis, Brazil. And probably also to eat brazilian bbq and dance.

Running from February 19-22, 2025, at ACATE Centro de Inovação, this hack-focused event shared over 10 million satoshis in prizes for innovative Bitcoin projects. That’s a ton of money in 2045 terms.

The conference, making its second appearance in South America, featured an impressive lineup of speakers and workshops covering everything from Lightning Network development to sovereign mining. If you got fomo now, you should follow Lightning News on X so you don’t miss the next event.

As a result of the competition, bitcoin developers went out to purchase coca cola at a local cafe using Lightning to pay PIX payment requests. That’s incredible, James Scaur built the prototype all in one day.

Notable presentations include Super Testnet’s session on building coinpools, plebhash’s guide to sovereign mining with BitAxe, and Jose Storopoli’s deep dive into BitVM’s covenant emulation capabilities.

Organizer Lisa Neigut aka nifty shared the livestream with excitement on X:

Beyond the technical sessions, the event emphasizes community building and practical development. The agenda includes hands-on workshops, panel discussions about Bitcoin open source funding, and extensive hackathon time where developers can collaborate on new projects. Companies like Vinteum, Base58, and Alby are supporting the event as sponsors and offering prizes for innovative solutions.

The conference has attracted prominent figures in the Bitcoin development space, including representatives from Lightning Labs, OpenSats, and various Bitcoin tech companies. Elle Mouton from Lightning Labs, Jeff Gardner from White Noise/OpenSats, and numerous other contributors are among the attendees.

The event is complemented by several satellite activities, including a Bitcoin UX Bootcamp, surf classes at Barra da Lagoa, and local Bitcoin meetups. The choice of Florianópolis, known for its beautiful beaches and growing tech scene, provides a relaxed atmosphere for developers to connect and build.

This bitcoin++ event represents a significant gathering for the Bitcoin developer community in Latin America, combining technical innovation with the region’s vibrant Bitcoin culture. The conference concludes with project presentations and an awards ceremony, followed by a closing party at 300 Cosmo Beach Club.
