Braiins, a pioneer in bitcoin mining solutions, recently announced the open-sourcing of its BCB100 Bitcoin Control Board and associated development tools, marking a major leap toward decentralized, resilient mining infrastructure.
The BCB100, originally designed as a high-performance replacement for standard Antminer control boards, is now publicly available under permissive open-source licenses, inviting developers and miners worldwide to innovate freely.
Decentralizing Mining Hardware:
The BCB100 release includes full access to:
- OpenWrt-based firmware with complete configuration capabilities.
- Hardware design files (schematics, PCB layouts) under the CERN Open Hardware License (CERN-OHL-S).
- Linux kernel support for mining peripherals, alongside source code for TF-A, U-Boot, and OpenWrt.
- Reproducible build environments via a Nix shell.
- Mining binaries consistent with BraiinsOS releases.
Software components are licensed under GPLv3, while hardware files use CERN-OHL-S, ensuring transparency and community collaboration. Notably, the release excludes BraiinsOS, focusing instead on providing foundational tools for users to create their own mining firmware.
Availability and Community Engagement
Braiins is distributing BCB100 units to Bitcoin Park in Nashville, a hub for builders and developers, to spur experimentation. Additionally, the boards will soon be available for purchase through the Braiins Store, with fast shipping from U.S. and EU warehouses to avoid customs delays.
Why This Matters
The move underscores Braiins’ commitment to bitcoin’s core ethos of decentralization. By democratizing access to mining hardware design, the initiative reduces reliance on proprietary systems, mitigates supply chain risks, and empowers miners to tailor solutions to their operational needs.
